contest winner

things have been super busy on the SH front lately, so please accept our sincerest apologies for the delay on getting the contest results posted (and lack of updates)! we reviewed the voting logs and noticed some interesting things occurring and determined it was only fair to allow unique votes by ip address to make sure all were calculated fairly and correctly.  that being said, the results of the contest are as follows!

Design 1 50%
Design 2 46%
Design 3 3%

Submitted By Stacey An for Allo Design

we will be working with stacey an (the winning designer) to get the design in the appropriate print specs and get it out to the printers! also, since design 2 lost by a total of 9 votes (and since we all loved the design) we will be printing our next batch of stickers with this design and send it with every t-shirt order! we cant begin to thank you all enough for taking the time to submit designs, vote on your favorites, and for all of the continued support!

with 2010 well on its way, our goal is to bring you some of these new tunes we recorded. two of the tunes are VERY close to being finished one song called unrecognized which we played at a few shows in mid 2009 and a new version of california is too long.  we will continue to work through the process and get these out to you all.

we will post the new shirts up for order as soon as we receive them back. if you have any specific size requests email us (siggyhill(at)gmail.com) and we will try our hardest to accomodate!

more to come!

2009 wrap up & shirt contest finalists!

happy new year everyone!

we hope you all had a wonderful holiday season!  2009 went by pretty fast and it was definitely a crazy year.  we cant thank you all enough for all of your support! of course we all have our individual highlights, but as a band here are some of the significant notables (which ill attempt at chronological order):

  1. brian and his wife welcomed baby lauren to the world on feb 25
  2. we finished recording and put out our debut album  more after we’re gone
  3. had our cd release party at pehrspace with good friends beware of safety and timonium
  4. did a mini tour of australia (sans physical dave, with his parts performed flawlessly by his digital counterpart: tim’s  roland sampler)
  5. we played our final show of 2009 in august with friends the littlest viking and beware of safety at echo curio (SIDE NOTE: besides the australian shows, we played everyone of our shows in 2009 with beware of safety)
  6. went back into the studio in late august to begin recording a new ep
  7. a week or so after going to the studio, rishi moved to scotland to pursue his masters in design and digital media at the university of edinburgh
  8. with rishi away, we continued writing music via the internet. the 3 of us who remained stateside would occasionally get together to take a stab at working out some of the tunes in the practice space.
  9. in mid december rishi came home for a couple of weeks! we were thrilled to see him and got the chance to play together live for the first time since august. we had no time to waste though as we saw him for the first time on friday, worked together live for the first time on these tunes,  and went into the studio early the next morning to finish tracking the ep!
  10. we spent two days back at the compound in signal hill along with our friend jeff lewis and patrick murphy (both who helped on the album) as well as dave’s wife pamela who took pics and help document it (review of the session and pics at the compound site here).

we did a couple end of the year interviews (which includes some of our favorite albums and films from 09).. you can check those out here & here .

with 2009 out of the way,  we have lots of exciting stuff coming for 2010!  lets start with the ep that we talked about. so far we have tracked 10 songs within the two seperate sessions, which likely 5 or 6 of them will make an ep. the tracknames and finalized tracklist arent done yet, but jeff from the compound had a funny take on the working titles (check it here)  he knows us too well! also not quite sure on the timing.. hopefully by spring we have it out. stay tuned here!

also, our last post on our site we talked about a tshirt contest. we are beyond stoked at the  turnout and thrilled that one of the below designs will be printed on our next t shirt (we may even do stickers with the second place one if it works out!) ! we want to thank everyone who took the time to put together a design and we will find a way to hook you all up with something in the near future for your efforts.   we did have the not so pleasant task of narrowing down the designs to a manageable voting number. in order to do  so we  all voted for our  favorite designs to  narrow it the list down to the top 3 (which almost ended up being a top 4 because of how the voting turned out). needless to say here are the top three and it is up to you to decide who the winner is! we will take votes until the 31st of January!

T-Shirt Design Contest!

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!

We wanted to start by giving thanks to all of you for supporting us this year. It means a lot to us, and we are forever grateful!

Things have been going well in the Signal Hill camp over the past few months. In August we hit The Compound Studio with our good friends Jeff Lewis and Patrick Murphy to begin tracking for what will likely be a new ep (although no set plans yet!).  This first session yielded 4 tunes and we are heading back in December to track a few more songs. More to come on that later and who knows, it is the holiday season, maybe we will give you a sneak preview of some of these songs!

In other and more immediate news, we are having our first ever contest!!!! Have you ever wanted to design a tshirt? Well now is your chance! We are going to be doing a new run of t-shirts, and would love for any and all of you to submit your design. We will pick our favorites and post them on our site for a vote.  Unfortunately we cant pay you for your design, but in addition to having your design printed on the next signal hill tshirt, you would definitely get free signal hill stuff, a couple of free shirts, major props and whatever else we could hook you up with. We will take submissions now through December 18. Please feel free to share this with anyone that you feel might be interested!  Also, be sure to read the guidelines and submission agreement below.

Again, we sincerely thank you all and send our best to the start of a great holiday season!

lil update

hi everyone,

its been awhile since we updated the site and we thought we would let you all know that things are alive and well in the signal hill camp. we began recording our first tunes for the follow up to More After We’re Gone.  we spent a glorious friday and saturday night at the compound studio in signal hill with our friend jeff lewis and patrick murphy.  we have fully tracked 4 songs so far and hope to go back and record more tunes in december. very excited with what we have so far! we arent sure exactly how itll be released yet (an ep, a couple of splits etc.) so while we await for those details to finalize, we are working on writing more jams! we will surely post sneak peaks of some of the new songs. stay tuned for more details on that front (there is a video at the bottom of this post which plays a little snippit!)

in a few non signal hill news items, our good bros are heading to the east coast for their first east coast tour next month! go view their tour dates and see them if they are in your town. such a great band, and the best dudes! they are playing some great shows with caspian (whos on an epic european tour right now), the american dollar, gifts from enola and a handful of other awesome bands.

in other buddies touring news, our friend rajiv patel (who actually played our ep release party a couple years ago) is heading on a month long tour opening for dear and the headlights and kinch. we cant say enough about how amazing this dude is live. his tour dates are posted on his myspace .

our friend rob price (who did the artwork for both the ep and our full length) and his wife kathy launched a new website called quotecookie.com. this site is a quote generate loaded with quotes that inspire creativity. grab a cookie each day or submit your own quote for others to enjoy!

thats about it for now, oh and our australia recap is coming at some point in the near future!!!

hit us up with some new music suggestions (tristeza and mercury program both drop new albums in december and november respectively WOOOO HOOO!).

best,

sh

a secret society

hi everyone,

we got word that itunes, amazon, napster and other digital outlets had an incorrect version of “a secret society” which was providing only a partial download of the tune! we sincerely apologize for anyone that has purchased from one of these retailers. we are working with our pals at cd baby to correct the issue. while this is being resolved, we have posted a free download of that song right here:

our sincerest apologies and hope those of you which have purchased the album from one of those sources finally enjoy the full version of the tune :)

sh

yo yo yo

howdy everyone,

sorry we have been so silent on the website lately. we have a few posts in the works including an australia re-cap and a post on some of our favorite albums, but they are taking us a little time!

here a couple of quick updates that we wanted to share with you in the meantime! first of all, we are hitting the studio again at the end of this month! wooo hoo! we will be tracking at the compound studio (in signal hill) with our pals jeff lewis and patrick murphy, the two dudes responsible for “more after we’re gone”(jeff did drums and bass, and murphy did guitars, keys, misc, and mix). our goal is to have a few of our new tracks recorded for a possible split or another ep at some point. we hope to continue writing and releasing music more frequently then we were doing so in the past.

also, we had what is likely our last show for 2009 this past tuesday (august 11) with pals the littlest viking and beware of safety at the echo curio. the show was a real blast. we love both of those bands very much and they of course killed it!

our set list was:

  1. this new years absence (we hadnt played this song in AGES!)
  2. the dead vineyard
  3. intelligentsiya
  4. unrecognized
  5. california is too long

for the rest of the year, we are going to remain focused on finalizing some of these demos that we have been sitting around for quite some time.

thanks everyone!

sh

australia, here we come!

hi everyone,

beginning tomorrow night, we are heading to australia to play a handful of shows! we are excited to play not only in a new country with some great bands, but it marks the first time sh has gone international! sadly, we are playing as a three piece as dave is unable to attend :( … with his blessing, full support, and his pre-recorded guitar parts, we were able to continue with the journey!

we have to give special thanks to all who have helped us plan this adventure, mac nguyen, marcus whale, our pals in all india radio, sleepmakeswaves, because of ghosts and plenty more folks. this was a huge effort by all parties, and we cant thank you all enough.

so lets get down to business shall we? the shows, are as follows:

our first show, happens the day we arrive! this reunites us with our pals, marky, ben, and martin who make up the band, all india radio. they are a fantastic band who we were fortunate to play some shows across the southwest united states a couple years back. they are celebrating their album “a low high” release party.

thank you qantas a380 – AU we are on our way!

A380 - AU here we come!

thanks, and something special?

first of all, thank you to all who have purchased, listened, and or shared our new album! we sincerely appreciate it. for those who couldnt make it to the cd release party last weekend, we missed you, but let it be known it was a blast! very special thanks to our pals beware of safety, timonium, pehrspace, and to del for djing between sets! it was a great night and we appreciate you all who made (or wanted to make) it out!

this next bit of news is a little embarrassing, but frankly, we are’nt the type of guys to not get too worked up over stuff like this.  amidst all the chaos of trying to get the album back in time for the cd release show, a slight oversight on our part leaves us with, well lets just say:  a collectors edition special error package.

much like the famous inverted jenny stamp,

(pulled from yourstampstore.info)

OR the frank thomas missing name baseball card,

pulled from http://baseballcardblog.blogspot.com/

the first pressing of more after we’re gone has a slight mistake on the artwork :) the tracklisting on the back of the art is actually out of order! it will be corrected in later pressings, but for now, we laugh, and say, enjoy!

art_proof_back_small the errors are:

1. floruit should be track 5 and listed after men before them and before stunning clarity

2. eternal return is track 8 and should be directly after men before us

3. llangollen should be track 9 after eternal return

full track list should be:

1. the dead vineyard

2. intelligentsiya

3. luna park

4. men before them

5. floruit

6. stunning clarity

7. men before us

8. eternal return

9. llangollen

10. afternoon lull

11. a secret society

12. our sisters

“how could this happen?” one might ask, and its simple; so many things were going on at the last minute that it was just a true oversight! the good news is that the track listing on the digital version and the songs are embedded on the cd are correct! so if your lucky enough to get the first pressing, consider this a collectors item!

more news coming soon including some VERY exciting out of town shows, more music releases and other cool stuff!

all the best,

sh
