so, the ep is finished and off to the presses! its coming out on the 20th of july and limited to 300 copies. each copy will have a screen printed cardboard sleeve and hand numbered. in the meantime, we have been promising to share with you some tunes. finally, here is a song called paper airplanes. click “get it now” below and a link to download the song will be emailed to you. we hope you enjoy and encourage you to share!

For those of you who don’t know, Dr. Healy posed his theory of telescopic evolution in Richard Linklater’s film, Waking Life. His monologue in the film inspired much of the most recent Signal Hill album, More After We’re Gone. A vocal sample from Dr. Healy’s scene is featured in track 4 of the album, entitled “Men Before Them“.

When we added the sample to the tune, Tim emailed Dr. Healy for his blessing and sent him a copy of the tune. He enjoyed the song and was very generous in letting us use the sample for the album.

Since Tim visits Austin frequently, he made it a mission to one time drop by St. Edward’s University (where Dr.Healy works)  and share with him a copy of the record.  Tim called his office on Tuesday morning asking if he could swing by and Dr. Healy cheerfully said yes!

Tim really enjoyed sharing time with Dr. Healy, who he characterized as super friendly, charismatic, and genuine.  Mouse from Classical Geek Theatre wrote the other day about how Amnion’s ATonn is one of his favorite songs to hear live in LA right now and it got me thinking about what my own favorites are… And so I put together a collection of tracks from local artists — some new, some older — that just fucking kill me when I see them performed here in town.

DL and assemble them in the following order for maximum enjoyment, but, most importantly, try to hunt down the bands’ next shows and go see them live so you can get the full mind-blowing experience.

Signal Hill’s track which was included is an updated version of a song called “The Dead Vineyard” This is a demo version only and was recorded in a live setting (so the production on the album will be much better, but at least this gives you a feel of what we’ve been up to!). Radio Free Silver Lake’s Let’s Independent – This show was our first show after not playing awhile, and it happened to fall on Tim’s birthday. Brian got lucky finding a super close parking spot and the other bands (xiu xiu fang & in waves) both ruled! All in all an awesome night!
Our CD Release Party @ Pehrspace – Between having our friend Rajiv Patel from Phoenix open the show, playing at one of our favorite venues, and getting to celebrate the release of our first EP which was FINALLY out, it was a fantastic night!
