For those of you who don’t know, Dr. Healy posed his theory of telescopic evolution in Richard Linklater’s film, Waking Life. His monologue in the film inspired much of the most recent Signal Hill album, More After We’re Gone. A vocal sample from Dr. Healy’s scene is featured in track 4 of the album, entitled “Men Before Them“.

When we added the sample to the tune, Tim emailed Dr. Healy for his blessing and sent him a copy of the tune. He enjoyed the song and was very generous in letting us use the sample for the album.

Since Tim visits Austin frequently, he made it a mission to one time drop by St. Edward’s University (where Dr.Healy works)  and share with him a copy of the record.  Tim called his office on Tuesday morning asking if he could swing by and Dr. Healy cheerfully said yes!

Tim really enjoyed sharing time with Dr. Healy, who he characterized as super friendly, charismatic, and genuine. its been awhile since we updated the site and we thought we would let you all know that things are alive and well in the signal hill camp. we began recording our first tunes for the follow up to More After We’re Gone.  we spent a glorious friday and saturday night at the compound studio in signal hill with our friend jeff lewis and patrick murphy.  we have fully tracked 4 songs so far and hope to go back and record more tunes in december. very excited with what we have so far! we arent sure exactly how itll be released yet (an ep, a couple of splits etc.) so while we await for those details to finalize, we are working on writing more jams! we will surely post sneak peaks of some of the new songs. stay tuned for more details on that front (there is a video at the bottom of this post which plays a little snippit!)

in a few non signal hill news items, our good bros are heading to the east coast for their first east coast tour next month! go view their tour dates and see them if they are in your town. such a great band, and the best dudes! they are playing some great shows with caspian (whos on an epic european tour right now), the american dollar, gifts from enola and a handful of other awesome bands.

in other buddies touring news, our friend rajiv patel (who actually played our ep release party a couple years ago) is heading on a month long tour opening for dear and the headlights and kinch. we cant say enough about how amazing this dude is live. his tour dates are posted on his myspace .

our friend rob price (who did the artwork for both the ep and our full length) and his wife kathy launched a new website called quotecookie.com. this site is a quote generate loaded with quotes that inspire creativity. grab a cookie each day or submit your own quote for others to enjoy!

thats about it for now, oh and our australia recap is coming at some point in the near future!!!

howdy everyone!

hope you all had a delicious and relaxing thanksgiving weekend! as the end of 2008 is rapidly approaching, we wanted to start by giving a huge thank you to you all for what has been a great year for signal hill!  we appreciate your constant support and hope to share some “presents” during this holiday season! so thank you!!!
